Important New Announcements from your counselor Mrs. Albanese:

Juniors:

~FREE PRACTICE ACT TEST~
Sylvan Learning center is offering a Free Practice ACT Test for all rising high school Juniors and Seniors. The practice test will be given on Saturday, April 19 at 2:00. Students must register by Friday, April 18 by calling 690-0671 and asking for the practice test.

~Planning a career in science, engineering, or technology? Rensselaer Polytechnic in Troy, NY is offering scholarships worth $60,000 to high school students who have distinguished themselves in mathematics and science. Each high school can nominate only one student for this award. Consideration will be given to applicants who are ranked within the top 10% of the junior class, have demonstrated potential for success in a vigorous academic setting, excel in advanced math and science courses, and have exhibited significant involvement in extracurricular activities. Average SAT scores should be around 725 in math, and 680 in critical reading. If you are interested in attending Rensselaer and would like to be considered for nomination, see Mrs. Peters in guidance ASAP. Deadline for applying is April 18, 2008.

~FREE ACT Practice Test by Princeton Review~
~Saturday, March 8th, 2008 in the FHS Library~
Princeton Review is proctoring a Free ACT Practice Test on Saturday, March 8th at 9 AM in the library at Farragut High School. Students should sign up in the FHS Guidance Office by February 29th.

~FREE ACT PRACTICE TEST~
Sylvan Learning center is offering a Free Practice ACT Test for all high school Juniors and Seniors. The practice test will be given on Saturday, February 16th at 2:00. Students must register by Thursday, February 14th by calling 690-0671 and asking for the practice test. The tests will be graded by February 20th and mailed home to the student's house.

Juniors, Remember that is recommended for high school students to start taking the ACT/SAT at the beginning of the spring semester of the junior year. It is your responsibility to register on-line (ACT- act.org/ SAT- collegeboard.com) Or pick up a registration packet from the guidance office. Deadlines are about 4 weeks before each test date. The test dates and deadlines are listed on the ACT/SAT websites (just click on the ACT/SAT links at the top of this page.)

Junior Parents...

Please mark your calendars. There will be a Rising 12th Grade Parent Meeting on Thursday, February 28, 2008 in the Commons at 7 p.m. Topics include the 12th grade course registration process and college application information. Parents will have the opportunity to meet the college counselor, Ms. Eva Peters! Ms. Peters will be available to meet with parents/students regarding colleges beginning in March.

FYI for Juniors...

Ms. Albanese is preparing to make class visits in late February to discuss the 12th grade course registration process. Ms. Peters, the college counselor, will also be planning to visit juniors regarding the college application process. If you do not have an English or US History class 2nd tern, you will need to get the registration information from Ms. Albanese in March.
